Business Problems
One of the primary challenges was assisting them with an essential project for their client: migrating from the local Domain Controller to Azure AD. They lacked expertise and sought expert advice to prevent data loss. Additionally, they aimed to enable all users to access data from both off-premises and on-premises locations.
Project Plan
Phase I
- It was crucial to take inventory and note all user credentials and software.
- We also checked access policies and documented them.
- Understanding migration preferences was necessary; some users preferred OneDrive, while others preferred SharePoint.
Phase II
- We created credentials for all users in Azure AD.
- Access policies were created based on previous ones, ensuring alignment with business requirements.
- We verified the number of files and folders to identify any missing files post-migration.
- DNS records were created to point to the new Azure AD location.
- After confirming completion with every user, we decommissioned the on-premises server.
Phase III
- We successfully trained users on the new system and how to access their files and folders.
- Additionally, we developed a training manual for reference, ensuring that new employees can easily familiarize themselves with the system.
- After migration, our team resolved several issues to ensure smooth operations.
